TITLE OF TALK: Machine Learning and Computational Biology
ABSTRACT: Machine learning is about extracting
useful information from large and complex datasets, and the subject
is a rich mixture of statistical inference, function approximation,
dynamical systems and distributed computing. Nowadays, molecular
biology is a fascinating source of challenging problems for machine
learning, triggering the search for new methodologies as well as
playing a useful role in analysing biological data. In this talk I
will give an overview of some biological problems of interest,
including the regulation of cellular protein levels and inferences
we can make from high throughput measurements, parameter estimation
and sensitivity analysis relating to systems-level modelling, and
regulation during development.
