Starting out in Research – an introductory course
Module 2: 3 & 4 March 2014
This short course provides an excellent grounding of the critical underpinning skills required for performing high quality research. This second module will build on the skills taught during days 1 and 2 and would be ideal if you are currently developing a research question or want to formulate a proposal.
The topics covered include:
Module 2 (3-4 March 2014):
- Selecting robust outcome measures
- Using and developing a questionnaire
- Getting research funding
- Disseminating your research
Course Aims:
- Apply an evidence-based approach to the selection of outcome measures which are psychometrically robust and clinically practical.
- Understand when to use questionnaires, identify what makes a good questionnaire, design and critically appraise a questionnaire, and plan a study involving questionnaires.
- Describe the stages involved in preparing a grant application and appreciate some of the challenges faced.
- Identify strategies to disseminate research results and findings, and to prepare successful conference presentations and papers for submission to peer review journals.
