BSc Mechanical Engineering, 1986
Timothy works as a patent attorney, having completed an LLM degree in Intellectual Property Litigation to complement his engineering qualification.
He is particularly proud of having stuck to the same career for 25 years and his advice to others would be to challenge themselves and not to accept jobs in which you “coast”, particularly after you have graduated, in Timothy’s words, “from the best university in the country.”
Timothy chose to study Engineering because he had always liked technology and he believes that the course prepared him very well for his subsequent career. He would particularly recommend Southampton because: “it doesn’t snow and the standards are high” and if he had his time again, he would try harder to be a successful rugby player.
Timothy still occasionally keeps in touch with fellow alumni, has returned to campus once or twice and he always enjoys being contacted by students during the annual telephone campaign. In a nutshell, Tim feels that his degree at Southampton: "was an excellent stepping stone to an interesting career" that he has enjoyed continuously since leaving the University.
