Why should I volunteer?
Giving your time is a great way to share your talents, skills and experience to benefit current students and recent graduates while also staying connected to the University of Southampton. As part of our alumni and supporter community, there are a number of opportunities for you to get involved with.
E-Mentoring Southampton
E-Mentoring Southampton is our online community of alumni industry professionals, who provide current students and recent graduates with the expert advice and guidance they need to plan successful future careers.
Help our students access a great professional network, answer their questions, and provide the real-world insights they’re looking for.
Community fundraising
Being a community fundraiser is a rewarding experience. Choose to raise money for the University of Southampton through your fundraising event or activity and you will be directly funding students from disadvantaged backgrounds and life-saving research.
Alumni networks
Become an alumni ambassador and set up a local alumni network in your city or region. Alumni networks are independent groups, run by alumni volunteers, and offer opportunities for local alumni to meet, connect and network.
Community Hubs
Lend your expertise to progress common goals through Community Hubs, covering topics such as health and wellbeing and nature and biodiversity.
Career Mentoring Programme
Become a Career Mentor and make a difference to the life of a Southampton student. You’ll be matched to your mentee and will meet with them regularly to offer guidance and support to help them build their confidence and fulfil their career aspirations.
These opportunities are great if you are short on time, but still wish to make a difference to the lives of our students at Southampton.
Share your careers journey with our students through lectures, webinars, panels or workshops. You will be inspiring students and opening them up to the opportunities available to them once they graduate.
We are always looking for alumni to provide profiles about what they have achieved since graduation. If you have an interesting story that you would like to share, or if you would like to describe your pathway to success—then our students would love to hear about your story.
Come back to campus and speak to prospective students during University open days. You’ll be a great example of what our students can achieve.
There are lots of other volunteering opportunities throughout the yet. To stay updated, register your interest.
