Special Collections will draw on oral histories, manuscript memoirs, other testimonies and writings to develop a series telling the stories of individuals in their own voices. As this is a developing series, more items will be added as they become available.
Basque child refugees
We begin with material relating to the Basque child refugees who arrived in Southampton in May 1937. Taken from a number of oral histories and from magazines and writings of the children, these provide a picture of the journey from Bilbao to Southampton, the arrival in the UK, the camp at North Stoneham, life in the "colonies" and more generally within the UK.
