The UK-Japan ‘Futures Analysis and Horizon Scanning’ Conference

Professor Jim Scanlan , Chair of the University’s Autonomous Systems USRG was invited by Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Mark Walport, to give a talk at the UK-Japan ‘Futures Analysis and Horizon Scanning’ Conference on 5 November 2015, at the BIS Conference Centre, Westminster.
Professor Scanlan’s talk, ‘Research into civil applications of low cost unmanned aircraft’ gave an overview of UK capabilities in autonomous systems as part of the session: ‘ICT - Carving out Future Society’.
The Government's policy perspective regarding unmanned aerial vehicles was covered by speaker Paul Cremin from the Department of Transport. In a later session the delagates discussed potential collaboration between the UK and Japan and the best mechanics to share findings and best practices.
