The University’s Women’s Day is taking place over 8 and 9 March. Get involved with one or more of the events in this varied programme by emailing the contact person listed below.

8 March‚ 09:30 – 11:30

“The Career Tightrope: WiSET teambuilding activity” – the purpose of this workshop is to encourage discussion and sharing of experiences about balancing competing demands when managing academic careers. It will include a figurative tightrope activity (no height involved‚ rope laid out on ground) led by experienced trainers‚ followed by facilitated small group discussion about career management. 8 March‚ 11:45 – 13:45

“Laughter, Lunch and Lifecoaching: and exclusive lunchtime event for levels 2-4″ – designed to provide life goals session to junior women in the organisation, and to provide and opportunity for women to network. This will build on a popular session in last year’s event, which looked at career journeys and the significant events, feelings or people which influence them. This session will blend personal and professional coaching in a light-hearted way.” With Vanessa Helps, Ashridge Consultancy. “The Balancing Act: HR work-life/flexible working seminar” – this seminar will raise awareness if work/life issues, possibilities of flexible working, some benefits and some challenges. There will be a selection of speakers talking about their experiences, and a showing of case studies DVD. 9 March, 11:00 – 12:30

“Student Involvement Workshop” – the purpose of this workshop would be sharing thoughts on women’s perception of equality within the student experience, to raise the question of equality in the student consciousness. This will include short presentations on the experience of specific student and alumni and a discussion around the ideas. 9 March, 14:00 – 16:30

“Mentoring Seminar” – mentoring already happens within the University in a variety of forms but is not centrally organised so provision is not currently available for all staff. The Purpose of running this workshop is to raise the profile of Mentoring within the University and collect

information from participants about what they would like to see a University Mentoring scheme look like. Includes VC’s address on equality and a “Benefits of Mentoring for Women in the Civil Service” presentation by Sue Owen, Director General, Welfare & Wellbeing, Department for Work and Pensions. 9 March, 19:00 – 22:30

“Inspire and be Inspired: annual Women’s Dinner” – the purpose of this event is to bring together senior women at the University for an informal networking opportunity that allows them to be inspired by colleagues and external speakers and to inspire others, to discuss, develop and exchange ideas, and to bring a new or junior colleague to actively participate and benefit from the interaction.
