Risk management students receive expert insights from security management professionals
A cohort of students on the postgraduate module ‘The Management of Corporate Security’ have recently received a series of guest talks from a range of senior industry experts and practitioners from the risk and security management sector. The speakers were Alastair Barron (former Head of Corporate Security at Barclays Bank Plc and Old Mutual Plc), Nick Povey (Chief Security Officer at the University of Southampton), Irina Heckmeier (Divisional Director at Gallagher Re), and Stanislav Bukhman (Head of Security at Swissport).
Each of the speakers provided the students with detailed insights into their professional backgrounds and career development, and discussed how they have led organizational responses to a wide range of major risks and security threats in their respective sectors. The speakers all offered the students guidance on starting and developing a career in risk and security management, and provided advice on completing the module’s assignment.
Dr Ian Dawson, the Module Leader, said “At Southampton Business School (SBS), we are always keen to ensure that our students learn about the latest research and theory in their chosen field of study. However, we believe it is equally important that we help our students to develop a comprehensive appreciation for the latest issues, developments, and practices in these fields. Our guest speakers are fundamental to achieving this. On the module ‘The Management of Corporate Security’, the guest speakers provided our students with insights into the latest risks and threats faced in a wide range of industries and they explained how the latest techniques and technologies are being applied to address these challenges. The insights and knowledge shared by the speakers equips our students with the foundation knowledge upon which they can build their future careers.”
The module ‘The Management of Corporate Security’ is currently part of the MSc Risk Management and MSc Logistics & Supply Chain Analytics programmes that are currently offered at SBS. To learn more about these programmes, please click here .
