My volunteer work helps me to learn the history of this city and meet some new friends. As an international student I hope to integrate into local people's lives and the experience of volunteering could enrich my CV.

Finding Opportunities

Students from any degree background and in any year of study can secure a volunteering role.

As a guide, Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise recommend students do not undertake more than 10 hours work a week - this includes paid and unpaid work.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) - If the role you are applying for requires you to have a DBS check you might find the organisation will arrange this for you. If not, please find further information about how to obtain one yourself via the UK Government website .

Training - The organisation you are applying to should provide you with training detailing their safeguarding policies and procedures depending on the type of role you will be doing. This will inform you about how to best protect both yourself and those you come into contact with while volunteering. See our Health and Safety Considerations for further information.

Volunteering abroad – We do not promote opportunities to volunteer abroad on MyCareer. If this is something you are interested in, make sure you research your experience before you go and follow the GOV.UK advice to stay safe abroad.

Speak to someone - Our Ask the Adviser appointments provide the opportunity to speak to one of our advisers. Come and see us if you would like to discuss volunteering or would like help with an application for a volunteering opportunity.
