Event details
On the eve of the Euro 2021 tournament, this webinar will examine new research into English identity and race and ask whether the inclusive England represented by our multi-ethnic football team has a presence outside the stadium.
Sport has done much of the work to date in settling debates about whether you could be black or brown and be English. Elsewhere being English is less obviously represented by all of England’s diversity and progress towards an inclusive Englishness – though real – has been slower.
Speakers include:
David Lammy MP, Shadow Justice Minister and author of ‘Tribes’
Sunder Katwala, Director of the think tank British Future
Professor John Denham, Director of the Centre for English Identity and Politics
Ann Coddington, London College of Communications, contributor to ‘One of the Lads: Women Who Follow Football’
