Lonza Biologics plc is one of the world's global leaders in the production and support of active pharmaceutical ingredients both chemically as well as biotechnologically.
Lonza has strong capabilities in large and small molecules, peptides, amino acids and niche bio products which play an important role in the development of novel medicines and healthcare products. Lonza is headquartered in Switzerland. In 2010, the company had sales of CHF 2.68 billion.
The management of the flow of scientific data from laboratory bench to scientific reports, and the rapid retrieval of records from the archive by staff without specific expertise in the electronic management of science data, is a significant problem for many companies. The volume of data is large and current processes are predominantly paper based and therefore carry a significant environmental overhead.
Southampton developed its own electronic laboratory notebook deployed within the university to provide a basis for on-going research into smart laboratory environments and science data management.
In this KTP, Lonza Biologics plc worked with the University of Southampton’s Chemistry unit on multiple KTP projects to 1) configure, specify and apply a science data management system, and 2) to configure a system for analytical chemistry, integration with laboratory instrumentation and instrument software.
