The University of Southampton Confucius Institute (CI) was formally opened in October 2011 in collaboration with our Chinese partners at Xiamen University, P.R. China. Since that date we have been working on a series of workshops and events to raise the profile of the Confucius Institute at the University and amongst the local community.
Our long-term aim is to establish and support the provision of opportunities to study of all aspects of modern China, including language and culture, from primary school through to University level.
When it comes to studying Mandarin Chinese we know that learning from an early stage can be of significant benefit and we are working hard to include local primary schools in our network of Chinese language learners. We deliver courses in Chinese language and culture for the wider community through the University’s Lifelong Learning Programme and provide a range of services which will be of interest to local entrepreneurs looking to enter the Chinese market.
