The Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences is small team of dedicated and experienced staff, who are committed to providing a stimulating educational experience for students of medicine and other health professions who wish to learn anatomy.
In addition to teaching on the BM5 , BM4 and BM6 programme the academic staff play a significant role in the management of the BM5 programme; including year coordinator, course/module coordinator and deputy course/module coordinator. Individuals also work on outreach activities including Higher Education to Further Education, the University Science & Engineering Day , and making links with local schools and colleges.
Research areas of the group are within medical education, anatomy education and anatomical sciences. Particular areas of research interest include: how students learn anatomy; spatial abilities, how anatomy knowledge is applied to practice; peer teaching; using technology to enhance anatomy learning; and skull morphology.
Staff within CLAS are members of various anatomical institutions including the British Association of Clinical anatomists (BACA), The Anatomical Society and Institute for Anatomical Sciences, and they regularly present at national and international conferences.
