Purpose Coalition Partnership

The University of Southampton has a long tradition of working with its community – individuals, businesses, schools, charities and local government – to fight inequality and help make the future fairer.  We are very pleased to be working with This is Purpose on economic, social and governance (ESG) action in the local region and beyond.

This is Purpose work with organisations to understand their contribution to ESG, identify any gaps and promote best practice and collaboration. This is done through a framework of Levelling Up Goals.

We are proud to present the Levelling Up Impact report for the University of Southampton, undertaken by the Purpose Group, which assesses our contribution to these goals.

The report highlights our exceptional commitment to addressing ESG issues against all 14 goals, with significant strengths in at least four key areas.

These include Goal 2: Successful school years, Goal 4: Right advice and experiences, Goal 10: Closing the digital divide, and Goal 14: Achieve equality through diversity and inclusion.

While we are proud of our contribution to social mobility in our city and region, our place in the community is unfailing and our work will continue to respond to the evolving needs and suggestions of our partners. We are committed to playing an increasingly active role through our widening participation, civic and engagement work which forms a key pillar of our new strategy.
