Inaugural CORMSIS Annual Lecture

We were delighted to welcome Professor Elaine Chew from Queen Mary University London to give the inaugural CORMSIS annual lecture. Her talk gave a fascinating description of data science research in music before moving onto describe how similar techniques could be used in analysing heart beats. The use of operational research and data science techniques in developing and working with machine models of music engagement, music experience, music analysis, and music generation was fascinating and the live demonstrations on the piano made this a unique research talk. Elaine went on to show how the work on music representation and analysis techniques could be applied to electrocardiographic sequences, with applications to personalised diagnostics, cardiac-brain interactions, and disease and risk stratification. It was lovely to see so many people enjoying the lecture and the drinks reception that followed and we are already planning a similar lecture for next year.
