Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• An enhanced understanding of the basic theory behind teaching in chemistry, particularly in a role as teaching assistant in a practical chemistry setting.
• To support teaching in chemistry as a Teaching Assistant (TA)
• To communicate effectively with UG students, technical and academic staff
• To assess and provide constructive feedback to undergraduate students
• To start reflecting critically on own academic practice

This training supports new PG teachers starting as demonstrators, graders or seminar leaders in chemistry at the University of Southampton.

All new doctoral researchers are going to be engaged in a defined Teaching Assistant role as part of this training, which forms part of their development and learning as PG student.

Lectures, demonstrations, role-play sessions and experiment trials. Learning-on-the-job as trainee teaching assistant.
