COPPI - A multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing the efficacy of a specialist and a generic parenting programme for the treatment of preschool ADHD
A multi-centre randomised controlled trial of the adapted-New Forest Parenting Programme (a-NFPP) - versus - Incredible Years (IY) 12-Week Parenting Program in a preschool ADHD sample.
Primary Objective:
To carry out a multicentre RCT of the a-NFPP, an individual home-based parenting programme, with a sample of 329 parents and their preschool children aged 2 yrs 9 months to 4 yrs 6 months with a research diagnosis of preschool ADHD, enriched for hard-to-reach and potentially treatment resistant children, to test if the a-NFPP produces statistically greater beneficial effects in terms of core ADHD symptoms compared with (i) the IY (an evidenced-based but non-specialised group-based package) and (ii) a Treatment as Usual (TAU) group.
Secondary Objectives:
Three-arm multi-centre randomised controlled trial: a-NFPP (Arm A), IY (Arm B) and TAU (Arm C).
Complete
329 parents and their preschool-aged children with a research diagnosis of preschool ADHD (any subtype) on the Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children Version IV [DISC-IV] ADHD Scale based on parent report of 6 symptoms on the hyperactivity/impulsiveness subscale together with a parental rating of impact/impairment and/or 6 symptoms on the inattention subscale and a rating of impact/impairment with parent/child dyads.
