Ms Alison Ormesher
Learning Designer
Before joining the Digital Learning team, Alison worked as an Instructional Designer at Solent University, a role in which she enjoyed working closely with colleagues across the university to design and develop engaging digital learning activities and course content that enhance retention and progression.
Previously, she was a TEFL teacher for many years in Tokyo as well as Spain, Greece and Mexico before returning to the UK in 2012. She then became Assistant Director of Studies at a language school in Bournemouth where she was responsible for the school's summer Juniors programme in addition to materials development and training for the school's VLE.
Her teaching experiences have helped her develop an awareness of potential barriers to teaching and learning and the importance of creating a learning environment that recognizes these hurdles and creates flexibility within it to cater for the different learning and learner needs of the individual. One of her main areas of focus at the University of Southampton is working on initiatives that help build the digital capabilities of staff and students, including a pilot that Digital Learning are running for the Discovery Tool , an anonymous digital skills self-assessment and resource bank ( https://digitalcapability.jisc.ac.uk/our-service/discovery-tool/ ).
