Mr James Allen
Senior Learning Designer Team Lead
James joined the University in 2014, to translate classroom-based computer system learning into online tutorials and knowledge checks. Prior to this he worked in the Financial Services sector, designing online learning programmes and collaborating with stakeholders to facilitate and deliver leadership training.
James completed an MSc in Occupational Psychology in 2018, and is currently a Doctoral Researcher in Technology Enhanced Learning. His interest in learning is on the 'human element'; how people use technology as a tool for change in knowledge, skills and behaviour.
His other interests include using immersive media, such as ThingLink and the Articulate suite, to create experiences that tell different kinds of stories. He works closely with Media Developers in the design of virtual field trips and online lab spaces, he has lead various networks across the UoS community, and also line manages several Learning Designers. James has won VC awards for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and was a finalist for Learning On Screen Awards in 2022.
