Dr Melanie Seddon
Senior Learning Designer
Melanie's career in education began in the 1990s when she trained as a TEFL teacher and worked with language students in Portugal, Poland and the UK. After studying for a Master's degree at Sussex, she won a bursary to read for a PhD in 20th Century literature at the University of Portsmouth. During this time, she published papers, taught undergraduate students and gained work experience at a range of literary journals. After completing her studies, she moved into academic publishing at John Wiley and Sons where she managed the editorial office for the British Psychological Society.
Before joining the Digital Learning Team at Southampton, Melanie was a learning designer at Imperial College, London and Wiley University Services where she specialised in the creation of online and blended learning designs for top research institutions in the UK, Europe and Far East. Melanie is a keen life-long learning champion, having started her post-compulsory education as a mature and distance-learning student. She enjoys helping others to access knowledge and gain opportunities to transform their lives.
