Using Theory in Research

Using Theory in Research will introduce doctoral researchers across the Humanities and Social Sciences to new theoretical frameworks for approaching their work.

Each masterclass is based around a theoretical theme – Environment and Ecology, Decoloniality and Space, and Sexuality and Corporeality – and is led by an external researcher in the early stages of their post-PhD career.

Each speaker will introduce a theoretical framework, corresponding to the theme, that they have found useful in their own work, and will help attendees to think of ways to use the framework in their own work. PGRs, masters students and interested staff will thus get an introduction to potential new ways of approaching their work, and students will have the chance to talk to someone a few years further on in the postgrad and academic career journey. Each session will include time for informal networking.
