Outreach

We would like to encourage students from a diverse range of backgrounds to apply. The department runs its own Outreach activities, but also contributes to University-wide schemes. Economics is a social science. Economists should come from all branches of society in order for the discipline to thrive. We are keen to help, so please get in touch.

Dragonfly Day

Royal Economic Society logo

The Economics department has obtained £3000 worth of funding from the Royal Economic Society to run a ‘Dragonfly Day’. This is a day of activities for Year 9 students. It is specifically aimed at female students to encourage more women into the Economics profession. It will showcase the breadth of Economics as a discipline, showing that it can lead to a number of different careers. Economics is often presented as being analogous with Business Studies, but it is not. Economic thinking can inform decision-making about healthcare, environmental issues, social justice and a range of other not-for-profit concerns.

Access to Southampton (A2S)

The Economics department is happy to consider applications from any pathway on the A2S scheme . You may be interested in the Business Studies pathway or you can choose one of the others. The A2S team will be able to advise you further. Please note: you still need to meet a Mathematics requirement for entry to Economics degrees.
