Our Inclusive Support Ambassadors (ISAs) are current University of Southampton students who have been trained by the Student Disability and Inclusion Team to support current students, who may have a disability, mental health condition, specific learning difference or long-term health condition to overcome barriers and thrive at university.

Could you be an Inclusive Support Ambassador?

Student Disability and Inclusion are looking for Inclusive Support Ambassadors (ISAs).

For some students the transition into University and the management of university life can be challenging for a variety of reasons e.g. mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, social communication differences, long-term health conditions or physical disabilities. An Inclusive Support Ambassador can support new, current or returning students engaged with our team through the following activities:

• Support Student Disability and Inclusion’s Enhanced Transition events during Welcome Week (campus tours, library tours, early access to SUSU events such as the Bun Fight and Freshers Fair).

1:1 peer mentoring, to help students with:

• The transition to university and management of university life.
• Signposting to support available through the Student Disability and Inclusion team and Wellbeing team.
• Adapting to university teaching and learning styles, including use of university systems such as Blackboard, Microsoft Teams, Share Point, Outlook and Microsoft Word.
• Signposting to study and revision websites and resources, time management strategies, wellbeing resources and sleep hygiene information.

What you will gain from becoming an Inclusive Support Ambassador:

• Work experience supporting students with additional needs.
  
• Enhance your communication skills, time management, experience of planning and facilitating meetings.
  
• Full training day with our experienced and knowledgeable Student Disability and Inclusion team
  
• Written reference, as required.

Time commitment:

The scheme will span the full academic year. Hours are likely to be for 1 to 2 hours weekly or fortnightly, depending on the student’s needs.

Students are referred to the scheme throughout the year, so there is a possibility you may be matched with multiple students.

• 29th April
• 30th April
• 1st May
• 14th May
• 25th May

Interviews will take place in-person or online, via Microsoft Teams.

A compulsory, on campus training day will also take place on Monday 17th June 2024.

Successful applicants will undertake a standard DBS check.
