Bioengineering KTP recognised in 2011 awards

Published: 3 August 2011

A KTP project partnering the Bioengineering research group at the University of Southampton with Finsbury Orthopaedics Ltd has been selected as the Best Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) for the South East region by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB).

As the winner of a regional award, the partnership will be considered for the UK Best Knowledge Transfer Partnership Award which is due to be announced at the Innovate 2011 conference later this year.

Associate for the KTP, Dr Alex Dickinson, has recently received an EPSRC Doctoral prize from the University to fund the next stage of his research.

Alex comments: "A Knowledge Transfer Partnership was the ideal funding mechanism for our research, combining Finsbury's innovative ideas for novel hip replacement implants with the University's expertise in biomechanical modelling and testing. The research contributed to the CE marking of two new implants, one of which has now been used in over 3000 surgeries globally. On an individual level, the KTP was excellent for my personal development and offered great experience!"
