The Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Infrastructure Systems Annual Conference

This year we have opened up the call for abstracts across the entirety of the UK’s CDT cluster cohorts under the three main themes of Water, Energy and Transport.

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum in which PhD researchers, leading academics and industrial partners can come together to present current research and engage in active discussion on sustainability.

There will be research presentations and posters from a number of CDT and EngD students from different universities around the country. In addition there will be talks from leading academics and industrialists from across the water, energy, transport and infrastructure sectors.

Confirmed invited section theme speakers are: Dr. Alan Stevens (Transport Research Laboratory, UK) for transport; Dr. Pete Shaw (University of Southampton) for Water & The Environment; and Prof. Patrick James (University of Southampton) for Energy & Infrastructure.”

Sam Healy graduated from the University of Southampton in 1990 with a BSc in Geophysical Sciences and was awarded a PhD on Vertical Seismic Profiles from Reading University. She joined the Defence Research Agency (now QinetiQ) in 1993 and has had a number of roles including research, strategy and leading a team delivering environmental research and advice for marine programmes. As Director of Corporate Responsibility (CR) Sam is responsible for CR business strategy and the delivery of a range of initiatives across the QinetiQ Group. Sam is on the Board of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (ICRS) and sits on the MOD-Industry Sustainable Procurement Working Group. She is the Programme Director of 'The 5% Club', an industry led campaign, focussed on addressing youth unemployment and skills shortages. The 5% Club won the CBI Special Award for ‘Outstanding Business Led Campaign’.

A number of events will be held throughout the day

The day will include lunchtime recruitment stalls open to undergraduates and masters students from current industry partners involved in research funding including; “Jaguar Land Rover,” “UK Transport Research Laboratory”, “Aquatic Health, Technology & Innovation Group”, “Environment Agency”, “RSSB” and more.

A c atered lunch will be provided and prizes for the best talk and poster from each discipline on the day are to be awarded at the end of the conference over social drinks.

Call for Abstracts

Calls for abstracts are open within the 3 main themes of Water, Energy & Transport.

The word limit for abstracts for both posters and PowerPoint presentations should be between 300-400 words (max). Please also include a short biography about yourself (100-150 words max).

Abstract acceptance to be announced within 2 weeks of the deadline.

Poster and talk abstract DEADLINE has been extended until: Friday 16th September, 2016.

*** Please upon submission of abstract provide any additional information surrounding necessary dietary requirements***

Tickets will be available via Eventbrite closer to the event date.

Accepted student talks: should last for a maximum for 5 minutes with a maximum of 5 slides (including the title slides; references/ acknowledgements may be included on an additional slide). Questions will be directed to all speakers and invited chair panel for comments at the end of each discipline section.

Accepted posters : should be under the same 3 themes and should be A1 sized and vertically orientated (59.4 cm x 84.1 cm).
