Integrated and sustainable cities research

Welcome to our integrated and sustainable cities research case studies

Smoggy city skyline

Today more than half the people in the world live in a town or city. In order to support this urban existence, we must model the city of tomorrow on sustainable environment, transport, housing and services.

Sustainable cities rely on intelligent transport systems. Our research is investigating how transport users interact with vehicles and the infrastructure around them in order to better design vehicles, transport systems and simulation models.

We’re helping build a rail network fit for the 21st Century and we are working with Rolls-Royce and Airbus to reduce noise pollution from aircraft. We are also developing new ways of water engineering, waste management, ecosystem services and carbon management.
