Event details
Even at this busiest of times, some among you might be interested in coming along to an online conversation on Access and Abundance this evening, September 30 (6.30-8.30pm).
This event launches Caption-Conscious Ecology: a series of talks and workshops advocating for the role of captioning in the production and display of moving-image art. Bringing scholars from D/deaf Studies and Critical Disability Studies together with artists and access workers, this series prompts conversations on the history, function, practical provision, and creative potentiality of captioning. It invites artists and arts organisers to explore how and why to embed captioning in artistic and curatorial practice. Caption-Conscious Ecology is co-organised with Nottingham Contemporary, and supported by the AHRC.
Today, Tanya Titchkosky and Louise Hickman will speak on access and abundance. Their talks will be followed by an audio-described screening of the short film, Captioning on Captioning, by Shannon Finnegan and Louise Hickman.
All events will have live captioning and BSL-interpretation, and videos will be made available afterwards. Workshops for artists and curators will follow, as well as a talk on Protest and Practice with Jaipreet Virdi and Collective Text on October 14.
