Guidance for Contractors
The University expects its contractors and their sub-contractors to be aware of environmental issues and have in place procedures to minimise their impact on the environment. Contractors should be aware of the University’s Environment and Sustainability Policy and how their operations relate to our requirements.
The University is looking for contractors to demonstrate their commitment to minimising their impact on the environment by:
-
Having an environmental policy.
-
Identifying someone responsible for environmental issues.
-
Adopting an environmental management system, such as ISO14001 or EMAS.
-
Providing training to their staff on environmental issues.
-
Learning from any convictions for environmental incidents.
-
Evidence of having taken steps to reduce their environmental impact.
-
Employing competent sub-contractors who will also have in place similar measures.
Contractors must complete a site environmental risk assessment to identify the hazards and the actions they will take to manage them.
