MA Film and Cultural Management graduate gives talk to students
Philip Hoile, Head of Film Marketing for UK distribution company Bulldog, visited on Monday 20th April to talk to some of this year’s MA Film and Film and Cultural Management students.
Philip, a Southampton Film and English graduate, was one of the students, who in 2005 chose to do the MA Film and Cultural programme, when it was first offered. Since graduating Philip has gone on to develop an impressive career in film marketing and distribution, and it was clear the students found his presentation very interesting: it included a specially prepared case-study, which in particular focussed on an analysis of the important role played by posters and trailers, as part of a marketing campaign which aims to find audiences for films. One of the MA Film and Cultural Management students, Chloe Chandarah spoke to Philip afterwards, and said how much she appreciated speaking to a Southampton University post-graduate who has been successful in making a career in a highly competitive area that she is also keen to pursue. The occasion was also a great pleasure for MA module Anne Hogan and Programme Coordinator Dr Sally Keenan to catch up with a former alumnus of the innovative programme, which has now been running for 10 years, and goes from strength to strength.
