Consulting the experts
There are many ways in which we can assist your project or business.
Geography and Environmental Science at Southampton is proud of its strong links with business and industry.
Our research and consultancy is carried out with partners in industries ranging from environmental consultancies to retail organisations and we also work with local authorities and government agencies.
We can offer methodologies and expertise, innovative ideas and high quality consulting. In this way we can assist organisations in their development; gaining a competitive edge in problem-solving within an environmentally sustainable framework.
As well as offering student internships, several companies support PhD and postdoctoral research in Geography and our world-class facilities are available for contract research, often through Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering ('CASE') schemes.
Our entrepreneurial approach has seen excellent results with research achievements underpinning several commercial arenas. Some of our enterprise is progressed through GeoData , a Geography-based applied environmental research unit, which specialises in environmental data management, analysis and processing.
Some consultancy is provided through the Research Institute for Industry (RIfI). RIfI is a cutting edge consultancy and applied research organisation able to support and collaborate with industry in specialist fields.
We can also offer consultancy in fields such as environmental impact and ecological assessment, environmental and waste auditing, environmental monitoring and pollution control, carbon footprinting, environmental modelling, environmental management systems, remote sensing and GIS.
We offer a range of products, facilities and consultancy services to commercial enterprises.
These can relate to use of our specialist laboratory equipment; for example, providing particle size analysis, XRF analysis, or Scanning Electron Microscopy. You might require access to our suite of high grade terrestrial laser scanners, differential GPS and total stations to support high-precision topographical surveys.
We can also conduct
environmental sensing
using cameras, multispectral sensors and laser scanners from our fleet of small unmanned aircraft (SUAs). Our operators are CAA trained and certified for commercial work.
In conjunction with Geodata , our in-house enterprise unit, we can offer a complete solution for your data acquisition, processing and interpretation needs.
