Dr Suzanne Reimer’s achievements in mentoring are recognised with a Vice-Chancellor’s Award
Dr Suzanne Reimer, Associate Professor of Human Geography, has won the 2018 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Mentoring. Her citation praised her ‘inspiring dedication’, frequently going beyond the call of duty to support fellow Geography colleagues and helping them succeed in teaching, research and other University responsibilities.
Described by colleagues as ‘an unsung hero’, Suzanne is keen to support staff navigating their way through University systems and practices; and to assist where possible by reviewing draft grant applications and papers.
“I was really touched by the nomination for this award, especially as it comes from my peers,” says Suzanne. “University life is busy. Particularly for colleagues new to the University, it can be challenging for to find their way in a new environment; and I do what I can to find time to support them through formal and informal mentoring.
Suzanne is chair of the Geography and Environment Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team. The Athena Swan initiative champions the advancement of gender equality and diversity in higher education. Geography and Environment was awarded a Bronze Athena Swan Award in October 2017.
