Professor David Steigmann will be a Diamond Jubilee International Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton from 2016 to 2019.
Visiting Fellow and Host
Fellow:
Professor David Steigmann, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Berkeley
Host:
Professor Georges Limbert, Associate Professor, Engineering and the Environment
Aims of the collaboration
-
To develop expertise and increased research into theories appropriate to describe and predict surface instabilities in multi-layer structures, such as biological membranes and engineering thin film systems.
-
To propose novel theories and computational techniques based on peridynamics theory and its variants
-
To explore the role of material anistotropy on wrinkling instabilities with particular focus on multi-layered biological structures
-
To establish an international network of researchers in these topics.
