The title of Emeritus Professor or Emeritus Fellow is awarded to eligible former members of staff in recognition of their sustained and distinguished service to their field of study and to the University. The status is considered to be mutually beneficial and facilitates a continuing relationship, on a voluntary basis, between the retiree and their faculty.
The Emeritus or Emerita title (which can be used by female staff) is conferred in perpetuity and is not remunerated. It does not have the status of either a member of staff or student at the University and the University retains the right to suspend or remove the title if:
Nominations for this title will be agreed by the Dean of Faculty before being submitted to the Vice-Chancellor for approval. The Vice-Chancellor will make these recommendations to Senate and Council for ratification.
In accepting the Emeritus or Emerita title, retirees will agree to observe the University’s policies and procedures, protect the reputation of the University, and conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the University’s values and behaviours. They will be required to comply with the relevant policies and procedures, which relate to their activities.
