Extended Carers' Leave

The Extended Carers’ Leave Policy sets out additional leave provisions to support employees with caring commitments. This policy will allow an employee paid time off of up to two weeks in the leave year and can be used to:

To be eligible the employee must have significant caring responsibilities for a dependant who is unable to care for him or herself (defined as a Spouse or civil partner, partner (including same-sex partner), child or parent of the employee or any member of the employee’s household who is not their employee, tenant, lodger or boarder) and have at least 26 weeks continuous service with the University.

The University’s annual leave year runs from 1 October to 30 September each year. Managers should ensure that any approved Extended Carers’ Leave is formally recorded via MyView under “Record an absence”.

Unpaid Carer's Leave

In addition to Extended Carers' Leave, staff are also entitled to one week of unpaid leave every 12 months to give or arrange care for a ‘dependant’ who has:

Staff are entitled to this leave from their first day of employment.
