Staff at Levels 1-3 are entitled to Time off in lieu (TOIL) if they're asked to work overtime. In certain circumstances the University may award enhanced payments to these staff for overtime, shift work and unsocial hours.
Staff at Level 4 and above are expected to work the hours necessary to perform their role and have no entitlement to TOIL or overtime.
Staff should refer to their contracts of employment to see what terms and conditions apply to their role.
Further guidance, including how to claim for overtime, is available below.
TOIL stands for "time off in lieu". This is where you are able to take time off to compensate for extra hours you have worked instead of receiving paid overtime.
Only staff at Levels 1-3 are eligible for TOIL at the University and any time off would need to be agreed with your line manager in advance. Our guidelines provide further information.
Staff at Levels 1-3 who have worked overtime with the prior approval of their line manager can claim for this overtime by completing the Overtime claim form . The completed and approved form needs to be submitted to Payroll for payment by emailing it to: [email protected]
