I chose Southampton Law School because of its reputation, and I was made to feel very welcome when I visited on the Open Day.

The diversity of the cohort on the LLM Maritime Law made it a fun and interesting experience

My highlights of study at Southampton Law School were simply the sheer enjoyment of studying again and on modules that I was so interested in. The diversity of the cohort on the LLM Maritime Law made it a fun and interesting experience. All the modules I studied were on the LLM Maritime law, however a non-maritime option I studied was “Carriage by Air” which was excellent, a small group provided a really good learning experience.

I am a mature student and had some family commitments, so didn't participate in all of the social events, but the LLM specific social event at the start of Semester One was a great ice breaker and really helped everybody get to know each other.

The annual Law Fair provided me with some contacts that enabled me to get valuable summer work experience, I also visited several law firms and did work experience at three of them. This enhanced my experience because they allowed me to see the law I was learning in operation.

I have just completed a one week placement at Tatham Macinnes which has confirmed that I want to be a maritime Lawyer, one day making it to partner.

During my time there, I attended a multi-party arbitration pre-hearing in Chambers, seeing how the dispute could have the most impact on the parties “lower down the chain” was fascinating.

Following my experience, Tatham Macinnes have offered me a training contract which I am thrilled about. The next step for me is to complete the EU law module of the GDL as this is now a compulsory requirement for entry onto the LPC. Then the LPC before commencing the training contract in 2018.
