Law School Professors Participate in ESRC Festival of Social Science
Professors Sarah Nield and Helen Carr of the Law School's Centre for People, Property and Community have participated in the ESRC Festival of Social Science. They collaborated with Dr Andrea Jarman of Bournemouth University to present two public engagement events: Sharing the Coast on Thursday 9th November (at the Branksome Dean Rooms) and Sharing the Forest on Wednesday 15th November (at the Lyndhurst Community centre).
Central to wellbeing and human flourishing are the landscapes of the New Forest and Hampshire and Dorset Coasts. Both these events explored the need to share the Hampshire and Dorset Coastline and the New Forest landscapes. Nield and Carr explored how law, regulation and its enforcement can foster sharing these unique landscapes and ecosystems through managing engagement amongst the myriad of potential users -- farmers, local inhabitants, visitors, walkers, cyclists, boaters, surfers, and the nonhuman denizens of the forest and the coast -- farmed, domestic, and wild animals and plant life.
Both events were well attended with plenty of active audience engagement leading to positive feedback.
