Callum Beamish LLB (Law)
Hi, I'm Callum Beamish and I studied LLB (Law) within Southampton Law School at the University of Southampton.
When I visited, the people I met and the University itself gave me an odd sense of belonging. It felt more personable than other places and I could see myself living, working and enjoying being there.
In today’s economic and financial climate it is important to know what you want to do with your degree, not just want to do a degree for the sake of it. Luckily I knew I wanted to be a barrister from an early age, so I needed to decide where to start my career in law.
When I visited Southampton, the people I met and the University itself gave me an odd sense of belonging. It felt more personable than other places and I could see myself living, working and enjoying being there. It was a lovely day and with the ducks, the trees and lots of people enjoying the sunshine – how could I not want to be a part of this idyllic place?
I was also impressed by the helpful and approachable staff, the excellent resources and the Law School’s good links to the legal profession.
During my studies I arranged mini pupillages and marshalled a circuit judge. These were incredibly helpful, informative and enjoyable. I was able to build good relationships with the people I shadowed and worked with, and they gave me useful connections I could call on for future advice.
Among other things, the balance between work and play and meeting hundreds of new people, are what I enjoyed most about studying in Southampton. Most importantly though is the reward at the end of it when you gain a well-respected degree.
I am probably biased but Southampton is clearly the best University and it is full of the best people.
