One of my highlights since studying here was this year when I had the opportunity at a law event put together by students to meet Lord Neuberger: who is currently the president of the supreme court.
The Law School has so much to offer, there is such a diverse range of opportunities available for all students. I’m currently the second year course rep for the Law School; I was previously the first year rep for a pro bono organisation called “lawyers without borders”. This year I had the pleasure of taking part in the “street law” initiative, which gave me the opportunity to travel to a high school with a group of peers and discuss “police powers and rights”.
Taking part in Mooting (mock trails) for the past two years has helped me with my advocacy skills for the court room as well as general public speaking, I have got to experience what life in a court room is like, as well as the necessary preparation.
The employability team does a fantastic job at the law school organising employment opportunities for students. This year I was happy to attend 7 workshops during the employability two-week break. I had the opportunity to sit in court with a judge and learn how to prepare properly for an interview at a law firm.
Southampton has a lot to offer, I especially like the parks, and the ocean village. Southampton also has a wide range of places to eat and experience different cultural delicacy.
My advice to students would be, don’t leave anything for the last minute, work hard so you can play even harder. There will be times you might need to sacrifice your personal time for school but just know hard work does pay off.
