The UCAT focuses on exploring your cognitive powers, as well as other attributes considered valuable for healthcare professionals.
All applicants to the BM4, BM5 and BM6 programmes are required to take the UCAT in the summer prior to making an application. Any applicant who has not taken the UCAT will not have their application considered further by the Faculty of Medicine.
The UCAT results are only valid for applications to universities in the year in which the test is taken. If your application to medical school is not successful and you re-apply the following year, you will be required to re-sit the UCAT. Applicants must resit the test in each year of application.
Registration for the test will only be available online at https://www.ucat.ac.uk/
Please visit the UCAT website at https://www.ucat.ac.uk/ for details of what you will be tested on.
The University of Southampton does not currently use the Situational Judgement Test.
All applicants will need to take the UCAT test.
Applicants for BM4 and BM5 will be ranked by UCAT score to determine who should be invited to a Selection Day.
The UCAT score is reviewed again alongside performance at Selection Days to determine who will receive an offer.
Please note that the UCAT score of those applicants attending a Selection Day varies year on year and as such it is not possible to give applicants an indication of the score that is required to attend a Selection Day.
