The Festival of Song’s main event is an all-day music festival celebrating all types of music in two of Southampton’s leading performing venues.
The event will begin at 1pm in Turner Sims with a song writing masterclass from our special guest
Sir Richard Stilgoe
, of interest to all music lovers and musicians alike. It will be followed by an afternoon and evening of phenomenal music from artists from the University of Southampton, playing a huge variety of genres ranging from folk to jazz, from pop to rock. These performances will take place in both Turner Sims and The Talking Heads.

Performers will perform in both the Turner Sims foyer and auditorium: Charlie and Hayley, Olly Lewis, Charissa, Kayleigh Ramchand, Ben Parrish, Keiran Delmont, Sam Smith, Alun Elliott-Williams Quartet, Will Jenkins Quartet, Sea Slugs.

Talking Heads: 19.00 – 23.00
The festival will continue at Talking Heads in the evening with Southampton’s most exciting rock bands, featuring: The Dancing Shoes, Corolla, the JD Quartet, Keir Robinson, Innogen, Diaspora, Winter Divine, Talllon.

Sir Richard Stilgoe
has spent fifty years as a performer and writer in all forms of the performing arts. He wrote lyrics for
Cats

Starlight Express
and
The Phantom of the Opera
and music and lyrics for
Bodywork
,
Brilliant the Dinosaur
and a new work '
Orpheus – the Mythica’
. His broadcasting work has earned him the New York Radio Festival Gold Award, three Monaco Festival Prizes and the Prix Italia. Richard sits on various boards involved in music education and is Chairman of Youth Music.
