Director (Academic) / Academic Theme Leader
Prof. Sinclair's core interests lie in micromechanics of failure in materials and structures. This currently involves extensive use of high resolution computed tomography methods. A wide range of interdisciplinary projects include applications of CT for biomedical, crop science, earth science and heritage projects.
Director (Operations)
Dr Mavrogordato oversees the centre's commercial activities, and has a keen interest in the development of custom in situ testing experiments.
Principal Scientist
Dr Boardman's research interests lie in 3D image processing and manipulation. Additionally, he is interested in novel 3D reconstruction algorithms, particularly their implementation on massive-memory compute clusters (both CPU and GPU).
Biomedical Imaging and X-ray Histology lead
Beamline Scientist / Senior µ-VIS Fellow
Dr Katsamenis runs the centre's
3D X-ray Histology (XRH) facility

at the at the University Hospital Southampton and is coordinating the biomedical imaging projects.
Beamline Scientist / Senior µ-VIS Enterprise Fellow
Dr Rankin focuses on the centre’s commercial scanning activities, and has a keen interest in CT as a forensic engineering tool.
Beamline Scientist / Senior µ-VIS Fellow
Dr Basford is a Computer Scientists and is leading the development of the supporting computation workflows and hardware needed to enable the processing of the data acquired using 3D X-ray Histology imaging and 3D image data processing.
Beamline Scientist / µ-VIS Fellow
Dr Alvarez-Borges main research fields are Geotechnics and Geomechanics, and uses CT to study the interaction between building foundations and the soil and rock on which they are built.
Dr Ehsan Nazemi
µ-VIS specialist technician
Dr. Nazemi's main responsibilities include, but not limited to, running X-ray scans and reconstruction, data processing, caring X-ray machines, and other aspects of day-to-day operations.
Dr Stephanie Robinson
Research fellow
Dr Robinson is a post-doctoral research fellow who works on 3D imaging and functional modelling of microlymphatic networks in both clinical and pre-clinical samples. Although her focus is on pulmonary networks, she also works on dermal and pancreatic lymphatic networks.
Academic Theme Leader
Prof. Reed is academic lead in structural materials, with a particular interest 3D aspects of crack initiation and growth in metallics. Major application areas include turbine materials for aerospace and power generation, along with a variety of performance issues in welds and automotive powertrain components.
Academic Theme Leader
Dr. Blumensath leads work on advanced tomographic reconstruction and novel approaches to volumetric image analysis. He is also interested in the study and development of unconventional x-ray tomographic approaches as well as the use of x-ray tomography for dimensional metrology.
Academic Theme Leader
Prof. Roose develops modelling technologies and methodologies to deal with branched biological systems such as plant roots and blood vessels.
Dr Katie Dexter
Experimental Officer
Dr Dexter is part of the team BIU team, and runs the in vivo small animal imaging CT and optical imaging systems.
Visiting Researcher
Dr Ahmed is a Beamline Scientist at DIAD beamline at Diamond Light Source synchrotron science facility. Sharif specialises in quantitive analysis techniques in 2D and 3D. His primary area of research is in 3D shape characterisation, 4D testing of granular/porous materials and numerical modelling using DEM.
