Project

In order to remotely and objectively detect plastic pollution in the marine environment, my goal is to develop a hyperspectral camera that is sensitive to the plastics’ spectral profile within the mid-wave infrared band, in collaboration with the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and British Antarctic Survey. The camera will be mounted to an unmanned aerial vehicle with a potential range of 40km to enable long-distance detection from above. The plan is to test the technology in Western Scotland, as well as in the more extreme conditions of the Antarctic.
