A high-throughput autonomous microfluidic imaging system for the analysis of microalgae using a novel ultrasonic technology
Anthony is working on a robust, low-cost imaging flow cytometry device which will leverage ultrasonic levitation to simultaneously focus thousands of phytoplankton and other microalgae into the focal plane of a high-speed imaging system. Coupled with a deep learning classification network running on an embedded device, this will allow the in-situ, real-time characterisation of taxonomic diversity of freshwater and marine microalgae and provide insights into algal bloom development, carbon cycling and biodiversity.
