An autonomous surface vehicle will collect passive acoustic data and send it to a computer for real-time analysis of cetaceans. Using advanced machine learning and signal processing techniques the acoustic data will be analysed onboard the vehicle. Detections of cetaceans will be marked and then classified by species.
Key information such as the location and classification of any detections will be sent back to shore for further analysis. The main focus is on accurately detecting cetaceans and also correctly classifying them by sub species (e.g. Blue Whale, Bottlenose Dolphin, etc).
