Launch of the Southampton Planeterrella
The Southampton Planeterrella makes its first appearance
The Planeterrella was presented to the public for the first time at the University of Southampton's Stargazing Live event on 11 January. Dr John Coxon gave a fantastic talk, demonstrating the history and significance of the planeterrella as well as the background behind our current understanding of the aurora.
The Planeterrella drew many of those who came to the event, and the feedback from those in attendance was universally positive, with people keen to learn more about the aurora. One member of the public commented that they were particularly interested to learn that different gases cause different colours, and another member of the public said "My wife, kids and I were all fascinated!"
The Planeterrella team are looking forward to demonstrating in the future, including at schools in the Southampton area. If you're a teacher or educator interested in working with us, please visit our booking page for more details.
