This clinical skills workshop is designed for mental health professionals interested in furthering their skills in providing CBT for people with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). An understanding of the principles of CBT will be assumed. Unique features of this workshop are an emphasis on approaching CBT for GAD from a cognitive process perspective.
The workshop will cover:
- Phenomenology and key clinical features of GAD
- Common problems in delivering CBT for GAD
- Developing an understanding of worry in GAD from a cognitive process perspective
- Developing a CBT approach that addresses common problems in treating GAD
- Introducing a new way of formulating GAD
- Deriving a shared idiosyncratic formulation for clients with GAD
- Specific CBT techniques to address key cognitive processes in GAD
Workshop costs
The cost is £120 per full day’s workshop with concessions of £100 for students and £110 for participants who attend two or more different workshops. The cost includes refreshments and lunch, handouts, certificates of attendance and an opportunity to evaluate your training.
Speaker information
Colette Hirsch,is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at King’s College London and an Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. She completed her PhD at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge and then gained a clinical psychology doctorate from the King’s College London, Institute of Psychiatry. She was a Beck Institute Scholar in 2009. She teaches and supervises on the Post Graduate Diploma in CBT (IAPT). Her clinical research programmes have contributed to refinements in the field’s conceptualisation of clinical anxiety and have been used to develop and refine CBT interventions. Her main clinical and research focus is on anxiety disorders, and in particular Generalised Anxiety Disorder.
