Speaker information
Dr Helen Goulding,of Quercus Training is an alumnus of the University of Southampton and has been providing professional skills training to researchers for 16 years. Her career includes many years of policy making and regulation. After her PhD she started work as a Fast Stream Civil Servant in the Department of Trade and Industry (now Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy). She then worked at the Wellcome Trust (large medical charity) in policy and programme management. After that she spent seven years at the Audit Commission (regulator of Local Government and Health bodies) so she has excellent understanding of how central Government policy is translated in other organisations. She returned to the Government to work in policy and R&D programme management. Her final post before setting up training business was at Ofgem, the gas and electricity regulator. She now spends most of her time training researchers at all levels, with workshops covering policy making, soft skills including personal impact and negotiation, and careers.
