Andrea is Deputy Director and Lead Analyst Children, Families and Disadvantage - including working on life chances - at the Department for Work and Pensions. She was previously Deputy Director for Strategy in the Department of Health. Before this she was Deputy Director for Strategic Analysis at the Department of Communities and Local Government, where her responsibilities covered strategic analysis of DCLG policy areas (including localism and decentralisation, and troubled families) and major cross-cutting themes that affect the Department (the ageing population, new sources of finance, new policy tools and approaches). She also had responsibility for deregulation and briefing on economic trends.
A government economist by background, Andrea has worked in various Whitehall Departments including the Cabinet Office, the Home Office, the former Ministry of Agriculture, the former Department for the Environment and the former Department for Employment. In the Cabinet Office she worked in the Strategy Unit on economic and social challenges; she has also worked with the OECD on local economic growth and undertook a secondment to the French Civil Service.
Andrea’s areas of interest for her Fellowship, starting in May 2012, centre around decentralisation, system design, risk and uncertainty.
