The Local Government Fellow Visit programme is a new initiative by Public Policy|Southampton (PPS), in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), aimed at strengthening the relationship between academia and the policy team at Southampton City Council.
The programme offers a 2-year honorary contract, providing local authority professionals with unprecedented access to university facilities. It will help to make the walls of the ivory tower more permeable, offering access to training programs within both PPS and the Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP).
This includes knowledge exchange programs, guest lectures, and shedding light on the inner workings of government processes.
The initiative also introduces the concept of Local Government Visiting Fellows, allowing professionals to delve into research work and gain a practical understanding of relevant literature.
By fostering direct engagement with academic resources, the programme aims to empower policy developers with the tools needed for informed decision-making, and demonstrates a commitment to building a more interconnected and effective partnership between academia and local government.
Through this initiative, the University and the City Council aspire to create a collaborative environment that not only promotes knowledge exchange but also contributes to more impactful and well-informed policy development, particularly in the realm of funding applications. This forward-thinking program exemplifies a dedication to the mutual benefit of both the University and the local community.
